cartoonmayhem @ 10:10 am: Anonymous Versus Cults
The children may or may not be returned to the Mormon Sect. All is hinging on whether or not the children were abused sexually and under age girls being forced into motherhood.

And of course the patently illegal act of polygamy. This is a large part of the dispute. Also at issue is free will.
Free will is the one thing that is missing from cults.

Anonymous is waging war on Scientology because of the cult status of that religion. The money flows only one way—into the coffers of the church. Which then issues SLAPPs (Strategic Litigation Against Public Participants) or bully suits against those who dissent.

Anonymous is attacking the bully suits by flooding YouTube with Tom Cruise having his mental meltdowns, Scientology lectures (which always focus on what services you can buy) and message boards with some of actual quotes by L. Ron Hubbard: you don't get rich writing science fiction, if you want to make a million bucks, start a religion.

Anonymous is taking a stand and fighting Scientology with its own weapons. Bankrupt former members are coming forward in droves, for every website that Scientology succeeds in taking down, another one pops up.
People are now suing the cult. Telling their stories. Exposure is Scientology's worst enemy.

Heathenry is about the polar opposite from being a cult. Free Will is rampant! People choose freely whether to join or not. There is a wide divergent of the kinds of people who join and people choose their own Gods to identify with.

"Worship" is a disputed term in Heathenry whereas in cults, worship is paramount, as is submission.
"Submission" is a dirty word in Heathenry.
People who disagree often form their own groups. It's an open door policy. People have the right to vote with their feet.

What holds Heathenry together.
What common values do we have?
What kinds of weapons do we have at our disposal if the government notices us?
Would you consider yourself a Libertarian?

What holds Heathenry together.

:WHen I 1st "Came Home" I'd have said the Ways of Our Ancestors and the Regin. Now, I can't say

What common values do we have?

:Once I'd have said Honor, Honesty, Integrety, Discipline, Respect for the Regin and the Ancestors. Today?

What kinds of weapons do we have at our disposal if the government notices us?

: Same that good Americans always have had against an Oppressor.

Would you consider yourself a Libertarian?

:Godz NO! I'm a Heathen and Gay. What would I want with the kind of Party that thinks Ron Paul and Bob Barr are Presidential Material? I might as well be Republican and Honest

Truth,
Pat

I put the Libertarian question out there because when I lived in Maryland, there were a bunch who identified themselves as Libertarians. Bob Barr as presidential material is a scary concept, especially since he is well known to have harassed the Wiccans.

I would have said the same thing you said about Honestly, Integrity, et al. but things have been rather diluted as of late and there has been a lot of drifting into subgroups that have become friends-only and locked others out. That's fine. People are allowed free assembly. But what bothers me is how many of the subgroups are forming for negative reasons. "I don't agree with you so I'm taking my toys and going home," and locking people out.
What good does that do anybody? Heathenry at large is left scratching their foreheads and the subgroups start stewing in their own anger.

Heathens used to be called "the Republicans of the pagan world." Now what? As more and more subgroups form, that leaves the larger community getting smaller and smaller.

The larger community being the one that is open to meeting new people and reserving their judgment.
I just can't help but feeling the larger community is shrinking.

IMO the larger community has Changed and left me. When I "Came Home", Heathenry was formost a Nordic Recon Way. Today, in many areas in Mid and Cybergard it's mostly Nordic Paganism in all but name. They don't Wish to be "brushed" with the Rep that Modern Paganism has but they do the same things, just with Nordic terms and Names. Sometimes it's like being a Christian in a Mormon world, the terms sound familiar but define vastly different things. If I wanted an "Inspirationalist" Way I'd have done so but I wanted something that my Ancestors would have at least recognised the God/desses if not the Spirit of...
You can't be a Recon and discount the Lore(except when it fits a particular agenda). Sadly, Heathenry's become like Modern Paganism and unlike any other real religion where one doesn't Change ANYTHING except terminology when you change religions. Once, folks that literally made stuff up would have been shown the door and maybe given a local neopagan contact. Now they run "kindreds", have websites, publish books and teach their dreck at Pagan Gatherings and bookstores...all much easier for the lazy than slogging through even a Penguin book, let alone learning languages to read the Primary materials. If you automatically discount the Lore, there's no reason to do all that, just "plug in" some badly-pronounced and grammerically incorrect Nordic terms and Names in some rite you got off a "Valerie Viking Vixon" website...

well I am relatively new to all this, and my current level of knowledge of my faith is fairly poor, but I'll take a stab at your questions.

What holds Heathenry together.

if you believe in them, then I'd say that is all that need be there.

What common values do we have?

Well, what I feel is a good value to have are the normal values of Asatru, those being Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Discipline, Hospitality, Industriousness, Self Reliance and Perserverance.

What kinds of weapons do we have at our disposal if the government notices us?

We got these guys http://www.vikingfighting.com/Default.aspx

and Stephen McNallen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDvPdWBeEFc

Would you consider yourself a Libertarian?

No idea what that is
